Goals for the next 294 days

Goals for the next 294 days

It's mid-March and I can't wait for summer to be here.

Then again, there are a lot of projects that I'd like to wrap up this year and I can see time slipping away.

I have got to make a plan to make the most of the rest of this year.

I love to make lists and I spend inordinate amounts of time planning my vacations and holiday trips. Yet, I fail to make plans to follow-through on my personal goals. I operate on automatic pilot at work and that means I am always busy but I am not necessarily making progress on my own projects.

I think I figured out why this is true. At work, I am accountable to my boss and that motivates me to get things done quickly and effectively. At home, I am accountable to myself and no one else knows that I'm watching TV or surfing the Internet instead of reading and writing papers.

So, I am making my goals public this year. I'll post updates as I get back on track and I hope that you'll join me in making the most of the rest of 2009 (294 days left)!

Career Goals for this year: Finish grant-writing (by April)

New Skills for this year: Learn to speak Japanese (by November)

Health Goals for this year: Exercise regularly (starting next week...I have free weights at home, but rarely use them. Maybe I should go to the gym or join a sports team. Any suggestions for weekend warriors like me?)

Thanks!
